Sophocles: The Three Theban PlaysPenguin Classics Antigone, Oedipus the King, Oedipus at Colonus Towering over the rest of Greek tragedy, Sophocles' The Three Theban Plays are among the most enduring and timeless dramas ever written. This Penguin Classics edition is translated by Robert Fagles with introductions and notes by Bernard Knox. Ο Φιτζγουίλιαμ αποφασίζει να ρίξει ο ίδιος μια ματιά σ’ αυτό το χωριό όπου τελευταία συμβαίνουν τόσα ατυχήματα

In a world where women are nothing more than the pawns of powerful men

It also casts light on his engagement with Stoic (and Epicurean) ideas

κι ούτε ήθελα περιττά βάρη

Cicero offers a Stoic view of belief

Please not that text is all in Greek - there is no English text in this book

With skill and artistry

Yet all the while the dutiful scribe was working on a very different - and dangerous - history to be published only once its author was safely in his grave

Trimalchio brags about his wealth

and contemporary events are introduced

Ostensibly written to chide and educate his lazy brother

one of the wonders of the ancient world
