Ascidiae by Ernst Haeckel Canvas PrintWe like a botanical study best when it comes with a little abrasion. Haeckel's sea creatures arrive in rust, deep red, teal and cream against an almost black ground beautifully drawn, but not polite. Put this on the wall and a quiet room gains a focal point: something to walk over to, lean in, and actually look at. It earns its place above a desk, console or sideboard, and holds its own on a dark painted wall in a study or hallway. Pair it with aged

or another loud colour-led print nearby

Hang it where you want a lift — a kitchen wall

or on a small wall between cabinets and shelving

Skip it next to bright

Skip it if your room is already pulling in lots of strong pattern

There's a warmth to it that softens a room full of plastic toys and laundry

and the small figures give people something to stand and find

adding depth and personality to your favorite space

The harbour pulls the room outward — suddenly the sofa

Skip it if your kitchen leans strictly muted or monochrome — the red here is loud and proud

Walls feel a little kinder
