Description

2005 Le Montrachet, Grand Cru, Nicolas Potel, BurgundyHere is a 2005 Chambertin that rivals the rose petals of Clos de Beze, along with licorice, a ripeness of red fruit, a suggestion of peach jam, and a pungency of cinnamon that turns tactile on the palate. A chocolate richness and liqueur like fruit intensity in the mouth never lose sight of the rose petals, nor cover up the chalk, wet stone and roasted meat that underlie a sumptuous, sultry finish. Round, rich and resonant gain new meaning with this

Working the vineyards largely without chemicals

meaty and balsamic touches

light and supple

representing prosperity

sublime with a ravishing finish

which is one of the greatest compliments we can pay it

concentration and a depth of ripe fruit are the hallmarks of this wine

In keeping with a vintage 2017 trend at this address – but a trend accentuated in this instance – the finish is detonative in its vibrant conveyance of energy as well as striking in its impression of chalk and stone suffusion

Bottled July 2016

are in slightly smaller volumes than 2016

The wine presents a complex and slightly dusty bouquet with smoky notes

Only after some aeration does a hint of site-typical florality emerge
