Description

Countryside by John Constable Art PrintOnce the soft green enters, the whole room stops apologising. This is a wide English countryside view a big shady tree on the right, an open valley of fields, small figures walking, and a pale, hazy sky. The colours are quiet: mossy green, warm olive, soft grey and a wash of blue on the far hills. Hang it over a console in a hallway, above a bed, or along a low run of shelves in a study. It pairs well with linen, aged leather, warm timber and brass.

Aged brass and warm metals warm the greens up

checkerboard cape pulled around the shoulders

Don't crowd it with busy patterned wallpaper or loud primary colours — the canvas keeps the matte

Sits beautifully against pale pink

deep navy shadows and that single red block do most of the work — they pull the eye up and hold it

your hallway can carry more cool blue-grey than it thinks

Put it up and the room tips straight into the run-up to Christmas — the kind of wall that earns a second look from a small person at bedtime

Here's the trick: let the cypress trees cut through all that plaster

woven baskets and milky ceramic lamps

Stoneware and paper textures sit well with it
