Description

William Morris V&A Centenary Poster Canvas PrintNot because it's deep red, but because it refuses to fade back. This is a vintage style V&A exhibition poster with two song birds, scrolling leaves and small orange flowers, all built on a warm, rusted red ground. Put it up and the room shifts a little older, a little more lived in the kind of wall that looks like it has always been there. It sits best in a hallway, a study or a snug living room, above a console, a writing desk or a low bookcase. Pair

One figure

Skip it next to heavy traditional oils or moody academic art — they'll flatten the holiday feel

The blue does most of the work

Stretched over a deep wooden frame with a textured weave that gives the brushwork extra body

The vibrant colors and floral theme evoke a Klimt-like impressionism

and it carries a hallway on its own

Skip very graphic black-and-white nursery prints next to it — they fight the painterly feel

The pattern has the calm symmetry of old wallpaper but the colours feel fresh

It works with pink

Skip it if the room is already loud with strong pattern or saturated colour — this one wants room to breathe

dusty pink lining and drift of cream blossom hold the eye without raising the volume

It also works as a soloist between two windows
