Description

Mario Varvogli by Modigliani Canvas PrintOnce the deep navy enters, the whole room stops apologising. The mustard and rust behind the figure pulls warmth across the wall, and the dark coat gives the room a calm centre of gravity. Hang it in a study, hallway or living room where you want a bit of grown up character without going theatrical. It works above a writing desk, a console or a low sideboard, with warm wood, linen, leather and brass nearby. Keep the surrounding wall fairly quiet

Don't crowd it with other busy illustrations

or behind a reading chair in the bedroom

friendly notes

The room picks up its warmth fast

and the whole room slows down to match

a writing desk or a slim console where the wall has space to breathe

just bold blocks of colour

ready to frame

and warm whites that pick up the pinks

Don't sit it next to busy patterned wallpaper or another loud painting — it wants room to breathe

and the small dark details — wrought-iron balconies

or in the hallway you pass first thing
