Description

Richard IIIThis scheme is aimed at Year 9 students studying Richard III for SATS. It consists of a series of 11 lessons, offering a practical approach to the play and the key scenes for 2007. The Shakespeare paper may cover any of the following aspects of the play: text in performance; character and motivation; language of the text; ideas, themes and issues. Accordingly, the sessions suggested here aim to help students explore these four overlapping elements.

allowing students to dive straight into the devising process in the new year with the one they have chosen

the scheme focuses on the techniques involved in using Trestle masks effectively

which can be used as a basis for performance or composition

to listen to peers

It’s a real challenge for students to attack Shakespeare’s language and bring it to fruition on stage

A look at modern-day fame and celebrity culture with the stimulus piece of Lily Allen’s song

One of the most wonderful elements of the new spec is the magical little sentence: ‘Candidates must work in a group of not less than two performers’

To say what they thought was good in their drama and what they need to improve next time

The Glass Menagerie

it aims to introduce techniques to explore and develop character skills

then encourages them to work independently in subgroups as the unit progresses

It is a standard-level scheme – for higher-level students you can work complementary areas of study concurrently (I explore masks and chorus with my higher-level students with a research investigation into a theatrical tradition using masks)
