This tall summer tree by John Constable pulls a whole room upward soft greens, cream sky and a small horse resting in the shade do the quiet work of a real window onto English countryside. Hang it above a low sideboard, an armchair, or at the end of a hallway where the eye needs somewhere to travel. It pairs with linen upholstery, aged leather, warm oak, brass lamp bases and stoneware

your bedroom can carry more soft sage green than it thinks

with terracotta pots and stoneware in cream and clay

the sofa looks more deliberate

Off-white paint reads less hospital

the cat gives the wall a focal point with personality

and the whole space reads as styled rather than purely functional

Black metal lamps and brass handles work too

or high-contrast modern alongside it — the gentle hand-drawn feel is the whole point

Hang it in a kids' bathroom or nursery and the room suddenly has a personality: bath-time becomes a little adventure

Striped or checked textiles work

Most of the paper is empty
