Description

DevotionEarly morning in Southern Utah. Cool shade under a canopy of trees, I wasn't looking for this shot. I turned around and there it was a farrier's hand wrapped around the hoof of his own horse. This man has done this ten thousand times. His hands know exactly what to do without being told. And yet there's nothing mechanical about it. Every movement is deliberate, gentle, and loving. Every movement is for the horse. That's craftsmanship. That's devotion.

I didn't fully understand what I was making at the time

Two gentlemen with an electric chemistry — laughing

Ultimately I had to surrender to control

Something in me just knew — this one was different

For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again

For this photo work

I was at the inaugural Founders Day Rodeo in Boley

Made by my hands

You just have to be ready when it comes

They don't care if you're nervous or tired or unprepared

I waited for my moment

The Christiansen family didn't forget
