Description

City Street, New HavenThis is a watercolor made from an early street photograph I took decades ago. The figures and background merge, freezing an ordinary moment in time. Who are these people? So much life contained in this moment.

This watercolor painting is a close-up investigation of a daffodil and an exploration of the color yellow

and the rounded rocks contrast with the organic tropical vegetation shapes

It feels like a dreamlike scene

made of local coral and rock

Living so far from the ocean

mysterious quality to the shadows in this otherwise ordinary parking lot

I was drawn to the water in the various vases

and I learned more about how their individual petals are attached and their very unusual shape

A neighbor of the owner of this house gave me permission to sit on their lawn

It almost felt like being in Ireland the day I was there to capture this scene

featuring an alternate version of "Nests"

I painted this from one of the photographs
